For home owners, buying an ottoman is likely not a life or death decision. But when you’re a renter, you need to think about every piece of furniture you bring into your home. How can you use it right now? If the next apartment has no space for it, what can you do with it? Will you need to sell it? If so, will you get decent money for it? The questions could go on and on. The easiest way to address this is by making sure the pieces you bring into your space can take on multiple functions.

I knew right a way that a coffee table was not for us. They take up a good amount of space and don’t serve multiple purposes. Plus, we really wanted a place to put our feet up at the end of a long day! In the past we had a sofa with a chaise. We loved it! Often the chaise section was the hot seat everyone wanted and the rest of the sofa barely got sat on. This is why we opted out of the chaise style Article Sven Sofa and went with a traditional style sofa. If we were spending money on a leather sofa we wanted to use the whole sofa.

As far as the ottoman, we decided on the Article Hira Pouf. This review will help you decide if this is the right ottoman for your space!

This post is reviewing the Article Hira Pouf.

Article Hira Pouf Review

Article furniture has taken YouTube and Instagram by storm. People are relying more and more on the internet to shop for bigger items and I thought it would be helpful to review another piece of furniture by Article. Honestly, I have only purchased two pieces of furniture from them. My sofa and this ottoman. I have no affiliation with Article at this time. I purchased this ottoman and my sofa with my own money.

The Article Hira Pouf or Hira Natural Ivory 30″ Ottoman, as it is referred to on their website, is a generously sized, high-quality ottoman. The Article Hira Ottoman is available in ivory and metal gray. The ottoman measures in at 30″ in diameter and 16″ high. This allows for a few people to comfortably stretch their legs out from the sofa. I would hate to spend the money on a nice ottoman and fight over it daily.

This post will discuss the quality and durability of this pouf. In conclusion, I’ll explain a bit about Article as a company. I hope you find this review helpful.

Is the Article Hira Pouf Comfortable?

I’d say yes it is. We primarily use it as an ottoman. As I stated above, it is large enough that my husband and I can each sit on the sofa and put our legs up without fighting for space. It is firm and doesn’t “give” too much with weight. This makes it a great option for extra seating when space is limited. You’d easily be able to sit without over sinking into the ottoman or struggling to keep balanced.

Is the Article Hira Pouf Good Quality?

In my opinion, yes. This ottoman is handwoven and made in India. I feel like the chunkier, braided sides add to the quality look and feel. The top is thinner and softer lending to a more comfortable feel for your legs and feet. The slight color variation adds to the high quality look as well.

I often find wool to be itchy and it can give me eczema. I have not had an issue with this ottoman. As a matter of fact, I do not find it itchy at all. This is likely because the ottoman is a wool blend and not 100% wool. It is 50% wool, 30% viscose and 20% cotton. The filling is polystyrene beads. It is nice and firm with some weight, although still easy to move around. I do rotate my ottoman around to keep the filling even throughout. So far, we have not had issues with it staining from daily use.

Is the Article Hira Pouf Easy To Clean?

Unfortunately no. It is spot clean only with a dry cloth. For serious stains it needs to be professionally cleaned. Because of this, I’d be careful with the ivory color if you have kids drinking and eating around the living room. The gray color may better lend itself to families with kiddos and pets.

Ways to Use the Article Hira Pouf in Your Space

1. Ottoman

Okay, okay, this is totally obvious, I know. But technically it is a function and the most used one at that in our home. Like I stated before, it gives you the freedom to use your whole sofa. For example, I’m the type that likes to rotate around on my furniture so that it wears evenly. So if we had opted for a chaise style sofa we’d only want to sit in that spot. This ottoman allows us to make any seat on the sofa a chaise! In addition, it is easy to move around allowing it to be used with any seat in the house!

2. Extra Seating

The generous size of this ottoman makes it the perfect piece for extra seating. For example, you can place it against a wall with some pillows and a throw to make it inviting and obvious to guests to feel free to take a seat! I think it would also make a great reading nook seat in a hallway or bedroom. Lastly, it would add interest at the foot of the bed with a throw or in an entryway for a place to sit and put your shoes on.

3. Side Table

Because I am often working within the living room, or I have my iPad and phone around, I tend to use it as a side table often. I set my phone, iPad, papers etc. down as needed. I didn’t plan on this, it just sort of happened. You can add a tray with some decor as well. Because it is not easy to clean, I do not use it to set drinks or food on though.

Article Furniture

So there you have it, 3 ways you can make use of this ottoman in your space!

Is the Article Hira Pouf Worth the Cost?

This is a pricey ottoman. There is no way around that. That having been said, you get what you pay for. The material is very high quality and it is handmade. It is larger than most ottomans allowing it to serve numerous purposes in the home. This is why it is a great piece for renters who move from place to place. It is a piece of furniture that you will keep for years. Therefore, I see it as worth the investment.

Mind you, it took me 17 years of marriage to purchase two high quality pieces of furniture as a renter. In short, I realized investing in certain pieces I love that I can bring from place to place will actually save me money. This is because I won’t need to buy new pieces and sell old ones every time I move. This can add up over the years and the moves. I realize not everyone is at this stage in their life and this ottoman might not be a reality for everyone. To sum it up, I would say this is a high quality ottoman worth the cost.

What Makes Article Different?

Article offers mid century modern pieces. Article functions as a direct to consumer company. This means they get the pieces from the manufacturer and we get them from Article directly. This relationship eliminates about 4 middle men! This is why they can offer such high quality items at great rates.

As of writing this post, anything over $999 is free shipping. Otherwise it’s a flat rate of $49. If for some reason you are unhappy with your purchase you can exchange the item for free within the first 30 days. Color swatches can be ordered ahead of time. This allows you to decide on just the right color for your space ahead of time before shelling out the money. In addition, it helps to further ease the stress of ordering furniture online. Personally, I am over furniture stores where I wander and don’t find anything and sales people try to force things on me I do not really like. Hopefully, those days are gone for me, thanks to Article!

Hopefully this review was helpful to you. Happy ottoman hunting! Thanks for reading!
