Why We Chose The Edgartown Inn
For one thing, I wanted a quintessential New England experience oozing with charm. I am a bit particular, what can I say? When I was searching for a place to stay on Martha’s Vineyard, I had never been there before, and therefore, I had no idea what to expect. At that point, I was thinking Martha’s Vineyard was a larger Nantucket (spoiler alert: I was wrong). Needless to say, I wanted a place that felt uber cozy, had cedar shake siding, was clean, aesthetic, and felt more like an inn or a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The Edgartown Inn delivered on all of those levels.
The Inn is in a very walkable location close to the harbor, restaurants, and shops. You literally could not ask for a better location in my dinky opinion.
We also liked the fact that the Inn provides breakfast. The spread was way better than we expected! They featured local pastries, croissants, muffins, homemade yogurt, farm-fresh eggs, and more. Each morning had similar staples and a few new things, which was thoughtful. It was nice to start exploring right away without having to figure out breakfast each morning. Not for nothing, that saves major time when you’re only in a location for three nights, as we were.

I chased 6 sunsets in coastal new england, and my #2 spot was on Martha’s Vineyard. You can find these six stunning sunsets in this blog post: Chasing the best sunsets in coastal new england (6 ranked)
The Rooms at The Edgartown Inn
I’m not kidding when I say that this is probably one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in. I loved how clean it was and the aesthetic,🤌🏽. I feel like every place I have ever stayed, this one was the most me. It was just enough without being overdone. It wasn’t so fancy that I felt like I didn’t have any business being there. And the other guests and the staff members were so down-to-earth and welcoming. Overall, it was just very refreshing to be there.
Our room had a view of the water, but not every room would have that view. I liked that although other people were staying at the Inn, we never felt that it was loud or crowded. Most times, we only encountered staff members coming and going.
When you enter the room there is a nice entryway and a place to hang clothing. This kept our baggage and shoes out of the main living area, which kept the clutter to a minimum. For me, it is especially nice to have the extra space in our room because I keep up with my workout routine of Pilates and Barre, even when traveling.
each day, they filled a carafe in our room with fresh filtered water, which was a nice touch.
The Location: Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard
FYI, the photo of ME leaning on the fence was taken just across the street from the Inn… I know, right?!
The Edgartown Inn is located in, you guessed it, Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard. I know, I know… Here’s your sign 🙂
Edgartown is very picturesque, calm, and walkable. If you didn’t know any better, it is what you’re picturing when you think, I’m going to Martha’s Vineyard. Though now that I have been there, I feel like the rest of the island has a laid-back, somewhat artsy, and dare I say borderline hippie vibe. So, depending on what you’re looking for, you may prefer to stay in another area. I feel like if you have kiddos, you may prefer Oak Bluffs, but if you have teens or older kids, you may like Edgartown. Oh, if you like harbors and fewer day-trip people, Vineyard Haven may be a good place to consider.
Remember, getting from one area to the next by bus is very easy. A car does cost quite a bit to park at most accommodations, if parking is even offered. Trust me, you could rent a car for one day and get around by bike or bus otherwise.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops to explore just steps from the inn, and we especially enjoyed the seasonal Edgartown Village Market, which is held on Tuesdays from mid-June to August, 10 am to 2 pm on the lawn of the Daniel Fisher House. They have great local vendors you can discover and support. My absolute favorite spot in the town is the Edgartown Memorial Wharf. It is a lookout spot on the harbor. We found ourselves venturing over there to eat simple meals, ice cream, or to sit and relax for a bit.
Who is This Quaint Inn Perfect For?
I would say couples and girls’ trips, for sure. I feel like if you’re traveling in a larger group, you may prefer an Airbnb. Though, to be fair, there are communal areas where you can play games inside, or you can sit outside to eat or by the fire pits. We plopped by the fire one night and met a very sweet, older-than-us couple. I’m not sure who on earth they were, but they were flying home on their private jet the next day, and their kid was in a camp on Martha’s Vineyard. Again, though they were obviously prestigious, they never made us feel uncomfortable, which ended up being a theme on Martha’s Vineyard.
After they went in, it was just us outside, and it was now dark out. We decided to watch Jaws by the fire pit. It was lovely. The point of this unasked-for rant is: You could meet your group outside and hang out. That’s all I was really getting at 🙂
Would I Stay Here Again?
100% YES! I loved our stay. As I mentioned, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We even called ahead because we knew we would arrive before the check-in time. They said they would try to have our room ready for us, which they did. They were very knowledgeable about local recommendations, and the place was seriously spotless. I also loved the evening snacks they would leave out from local bakeries in the kitchen area. I cannot recommend the Edgartown Inn enough, and I hope you have the chance to experience staying here.
If you have been wondering where to stay in Martha’s Vineyard, I can honestly say this Inn is charming, clean, and beyond friendly. It is the perfect home base to come back to after a day of exploring the Vineyard.
