If there’s one clothing item that has earned a permanent place in my coastal capsule wardrobe, it’s the:
Quince 100% Organic Cotton Gauze Smocked Maxi Skirt in Blue Gingham.
I recently snagged it for a trip to Nantucket, but since then I’ve found myself reaching for it again and again. It’s comfortable enough to wear all day while perusing coastal towns, decent enough for a delish dinner by the water, and versatile enough to style across three seasons.
If you’re trying to build a smaller wardrobe with pieces you’ll actually wear, this skirt is, hands down, one of my new favorite purchases.
On the hunt for the perfect coastal capsule wardrobe? I curated some of my favorite Quince pieces that are perfect for a coastal capsule wardrobe for any season. I hope it’s helpful:)
Why I Love This Organic Cotton Gauze Maxi Skirt
The first thing I noticed was how incredibly comfortable it is.
The lightweight organic cotton gauze fabric feels breathable on warm summer days (which, let’s face it, we have had some hot and humid days lately) while still providing enough coverage thanks to the thin full-length liner so it is not see-through. The smocked waistband is soft and stretchy without digging in, making it comfortable for long travel days or hours spent walking.
I also love that the Blue Gingham print feels timeless. It has a coastal New England look that pairs effortlessly with white tops, denim jackets, sweaters, and simple accessories. I also love the indigo blue color, that’s on my wish list 🙂
A Perfect Three-Season Maxi Skirt
I would argue that the best thing about this skirt is how easily it transitions from spring into fall.
Spring
For spring, I pair it with a simple white cotton button-down shirt tied in a knot at the waist, a headband, and huarache sandals or a skin colored wedge if you’re going for dressy. I also think it’d look adorable with Keds flat sneakers for an effortlessly cool vibe.
Summer
This is where the skirt really shines.
I wore it while exploring Nantucket and received so many compliments throughout the day. The breathable cotton kept me cool while walking around town, and the flowy silhouette felt effortless without sacrificing style. There is nothing like being comfy and still getting comments!
Pair it with:
- A white bodysuit or fitted tank
- Flat sandals, I like huarache sandals
- A woven camel leather bag
- Simple Cape Cod jewelry and a lemon headscarf
It’s just one of those outfits that looks put together with very little effort.
Fall
Although I haven’t photographed this look yet, I already know exactly what I’ll do:
I’ll pair the Blue Gingham skirt with a white organic cotton sweater, low camel-colored Uggs, and a crossbody bag for crisp New England afternoons. It seems like it’s the perfect outfit for New England fall activities like apple picking, hanging out in cafes, or strolling through charming coastal towns after the summer crowds have gone home, with a warm drink in your hand.
Perfect for New England Travel
If you’ve ever packed for New England, you know the weather can change quickly. That’s why I lean towards pieces that work in different temperatures and can be easily switched up. Like this skirt: All I need is a white bodysuit, a white button-down, and a white sweater, and this skirt would work even if the weather is a bit warmer or cooler than I had planned on.
This skirt packs well, doesn’t feel overly bulky, and transitions easily from sightseeing during the day to dinner in the evening. Whether you’re visiting Newport, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Maine, or your favorite local coastal town, I’m telling you, it just works.
Sizing
I found the smocked waistband to be very forgiving and comfortable. The skirt has a relaxed fit with plenty of movement, making it easy to wear for long days of walking without feeling restrictive. Because I am smaller-waisted with a full bottom, I actually sized down to an XS, and it fit fine because the style is flowy through the hips.
If you’re straighter or fuller through the waist, get your true size. If you’re an hourglass or pear shape, I think you could size down. DOn’t worry, quince offers free shipping on returns and exchanges.
Is It Worth It?
For me, absolutely. I find Quince’s pieces, specifically the cotton and linen pieces, to be of great quality and value.
Instead of buying trendy pieces that only work for one season, I’d rather invest in clothing that I can wear repeatedly throughout the year. This organic cotton gauze maxi skirt has quickly become one of those staple pieces. It’s comfortable, timeless, easy to style, and perfectly suited for New England’s relaxed coastal aesthetic. If you’re looking for one versatile maxi skirt that works from spring through fall, this is one I’d happily purchase again.
